The massive investment in renewable energy sources, the constant concern with climate change and the development of more than 250 income generation, energy efficiency, education and recycling projects meant Enel has been recognised as Most Sustainable Company of the Year by the publication Guia Exame Sustentabilidade 2018 (Exame Sustainability Guide 2018).
Yesterday morning, Enel received two awards from Exame magazine: Most Sustainable Company in the Electrical Sector and Most Sustainable Company in Brazil. Nicola Cotugno, Enel Brasil Country Manager, said the achievement is the result of a constant commitment to sustainability, one of the company’s main pillars:
“This award reflects our energy, the way we dedicate ourselves to our work. It is the result of the energy of all employees, who work to create true sustainable development that has real impact across all spheres. This sustainable development is in the way we relate to our work colleagues, our suppliers, our customers and, above all, to society.”
The concern with sustainability is in Enel’s essence. Before starting any work or operation, the company deeply studies the history and traditions of each region, with the goal of creating shared value with the neighbouring population of its energy generation and distribution parks.
The company’s operations are currently spread across 23 Brazilian states and the firm’s Sustainability team promotes constant dialogue with local communities. Through this close relationship, last year Enel more than doubled the number of social projects it develops. In 2016, around 2 million people benefit from them. In 2017, this increased to 6.8 million people!
“Today, 40% of our projects fit the shared value premise and bring not only social benefits to the communities in which we operate, but also for the company business. Projects such as ‘Ecoenel’, ‘Solidary Light’, ‘Enel Shares Efficient Exchange’ and ‘Enel Shares Entrepreneurship’ have helped to reduce non-payments.”
Since 2003, Enel publishes its Annual Sustainability Report, following the Global Reporting Initiative directives, with the company’s economic, social and environmental results.
