“You can't even find a bottle cap on the street. Everything is clean now”

– Valdir José da Costa, President of the Associação de Moradores do Conjunto São Bernardo

And it wasn't just the cleanliness of the streets that improved after the project was expanded. Valdir says that the residents’ standard of living also rose when the expenses with electricity bills decreased: "Many people here, especially women, can even bring the electricity bill down to zero with the amount of recyclables they collect. At the end of the month, the impact on the budget is huge," he says.

Learn how to earn a discount on your electricity bill

To join the initiative, simply go to any Ecoenel collection point and present the electricity bill in which you want to receive the discount. After registration, whenever the consumer collects recyclable waste, the materials will be weighed and the bonus calculated. The discount will be credited in the next bill.

Since its inception in 2007, the Ecoenel programme has benefited more than 600,000 customers, granting R$ 5.2 million in discounts and collecting over 32,000 tonnes of waste in Ceará and Rio de Janeiro. Currently, the Enel Group distributors have about 200 collection points distributed throughout 41 cities in the two states.
