The Punta del Este round will definitely provide the most spectacular views of the ABB FIA Formula E Championship season as the 20 single-seaters competing in the e-car world championship zip along the seafront at Playa Brava, one of Uruguay’s most famous and buzzing beaches.
Punta del Este is so exclusive, in fact, that it is known as the “Monte Carlo of South America.” And, as is the case with its European twin, it has a long, winding city circuit quite unlike anything else on the scene. The track follows the coastline before turning back on itself, in a series of fast, tight chicanes. This is Formula E’s third visit after the ePrix of 2015 and 2016, both of which were won by the Swiss driver, Sébastien Buemi.
Enel is also making a return visit to Punta del Este as Official Power Partner, placing its technology at the service of sustainable sport. Equipped with innovative glycerine-powered generators and solar panels, both the circuit and the paddock will be managed by our Energy Management System software to optimise consumption and monitor it in real-time.
Aside from the first driver over the finish line, the winners of another sustainability competition will also be receiving prizes. The Play Energy programme was launched by our Group to raise awareness of environmental issues and intelligent energy consumption among schoolchildren and students. Now representatives from the schools in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay which topped the 2017 standings with their innovative projects, will be taking to the stage to accept their prizes during the event.
