Formula E innovations speed up New York

For the first time, the city of New York has hosted the innovations of Formula E, a motor racing competition for electric vehicles. Sam Bird won the two stages that took place in the streets of Brooklyn on July 15th and 16th. On the first day of the contest, Brazilians Lucas Di Grassi and Nelson Piquet Júnior finished the race in the 4th and 11th positions. The second day wasn’t so good for our drivers: Di Grassi dropped to 5th place and Nelsinho finished in 16th.

In Saturday’s race, Sam Bird, DS Virgin Racing’s star driver, gave an exemplary performance, with no mistakes, and achieved his first pole position of the season. The British driver’s success repeated itself the following day:

“What an amazing moment for me and for my whole team! To win here in New York is incredible. This was a historic weekend, not only for Formula E but also for motorsport in general. To be the first driver to win here is really special”

– Sam Bird, DS Virgin Racing

The conclusion of the 2016-2017 season will take place in Montreal, in Canada, on July 29th and 30th. After the results so far, Brazilian driver Lucas Di Grassi has 147 points – just 10 behind Swiss racer Sébastien Buemi. The final Formula E stage undoubtedly promises to be even more electrifying!

The Brooklyn Circuit

The New York Grand Prix was the first official FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) event around the emblematic US city. The 1.95km circuit encompassed 10 laps around the Red Hook neighbourhood in Brooklyn and, in addition to the skyscrapers and the wonderful skyline of Manhattan, had a privileged view of the Statue of Liberty.

Strong bet on the future!

When few people believed in this dream – a motorsport competition for fully electric cars – Enel Group already invested strongly in the initiative. Since last year we have been official partners of the category.

“Enel has supported the development of cutting-edge technologies aiming to transform Formula E into a true lab on the future of sustainable mobility”

More than being a partner of the competition, Enel Group has several initiatives and projects on electric mobility, as well as investing in energy generation through sustainable sources and in the development of smart cities and grids.
