Rio de Janeiro, May 4th 2020 – Enel Green Power Brasil, Enel Group’s Brazilian renewable energy subsidiary, has created a Coronavirus fight support programme that includes a series of actions to help public institutions and the population in combating the epidemic in the regions surrounding the company’s two renewable facilities currently under construction in the country, located in the state of Piauí. The measures will directly benefit six municipalities close to the São Gonçalo solar park and the Lagoa dos Ventos wind farm, as well as two regional hospitals – Senador Cândido Ferraz Hospital in São Raimundo Nonato, and Manoel de Sousa Santos Hospital in Bom Jesus. The initiatives are part of a national support programme by Enel Brasil to combat Coronavirus in several of the country’s regions where the company operates in energy distribution and generation, such as São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Ceará, Goiás and Bahia. Through the #TogetherInTheSameEnergy movement, the company will dedicate 23.4 million Brazilian reais to the initiatives.

“We are building in Piauí the largest solar park and the largest wind plant in South America.  We have a commitment with the communities in which we operate and we know the importance of joining efforts in this challenging time. People’s lives are always the most important value and we believe our actions will help the population living on these regions and our employees in Piauí to overcome the current situation in the best way possible. Furthermore, the strengthening of the health system will be an important legacy to the region after the fight against the new virus,” explains Roberta Bonomi, Enel Green Power manager in Brazil. “We have maintained constant dialogue with local authorities and all of the company’s actions and donations serve the essential needs of these locations, discussed with municipal and state governments. We will continue operating to generate shared value, combining the development of our business to the needs of the people.”

The company will donate 10 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds to the Senador Cândido Ferraz and Manoel de Sousa Santos hospitals. These units did not have specific beds to treat serious cases and, through this donation, will play an important role during the epidemic, reducing the distances between residents of cities in the countryside and the units with ICU beds on offer. To help the transportation of patients in a more critical condition to the two regional hospitals, Enel Green Power will make an ambulance available for emergency cases, with drivers, in the municipalities of Lagoa do Barro and Corrente. Enel will also supply in total 2,400 quick tests to diagnose Covid-19 to the town halls in Lagoa do Barro, Queimada Nova, Dom Inocêncio, São Gonçalo do Gurgueia, Gilbués and Corrente, as well as materials for the safe operation of health teams, such as disposable aprons, surgical masks, N95 masks.

With the goal of maintaining the population of the cities surrounding the EGP sites informed and protected against Coronavirus, the company will support town halls in the communication about the importance of social isolation and the main prevention and hygiene guidance in the home. Enel will also donate soaps to around 25,000 families in the region. Another action in the forecast is the donation of food parcels to the State Government, to be distributed to at-risk and vulnerable families.
