Brazil on the Formula E calendar!

Published on Wednesday, 21 June 2017

In 2018, the adrenalin of Formula E – a motorsport competition with 100% electric cars – will arrive in Brazil. The news was revealed on Monday during the FIA World Motor Sport Council, organised by the Federatión Internacionale de L’Automobile in Switzerland.

Formula E’s fourth season will have a more compact schedule and includes two new South American cities: Santiago and São Paulo. The race in Chile’s capital will take place on February 3rd, while the first Brazilian contest in the competition will happen in March, most likely on the 17th.

“We are very glad to include new cities in the Formula E calendar, as well as returning to locations that were very successful in previous seasons. Formula E continues to expand its list of partners and suppliers that are joining the electrical revolution. Our priority is to consolidate the schedule and to establish long-term agreements with the host cities. The fourth season’s timetable is a step in the right direction”

At the start of this year, Alejandro Agag met in São Paulo with Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi and representatives of SPTuris and City Hall. The Brazilian E-Prix is slated to take place in the Anhembi Sambadrome. Olavo Fontoura Avenue will also be part of the course, which is still going through design adjustments.

“ As well as Grassi, in the current Formula E season Brazil is also being represented by driver Nelsinho Piquet. As Carnival 2018 will take place on February 10-13, the race is planned to happen after the samba school parade to take advantage of the infrastructure assembled at Anhembi. The Tietê Marginal, which was in the original plan, is unlikely to be part of the course as, per Formula E rules, the race shouldn’t cause disruption to the host city. ”
